Rudy Mancuso’s latest video Mama gives us an intimate look inside his imagination. Those who’ve followed Rudy since the Vine day’s, you remember that his Mama played a large role in his content. This time his Mama takes on a darker role. It seems as if his mama haunts the peripherals of his dating life, making it impossible to find a healthy connection. Thus getting him rejected and slapped repeatedly. But through all the rejection and all the face slapping, Rudy plays it cooler than ever. Just like his mama told him.

The aesthetic of the video is gloomy and grey, balanced with a pastel color palette that reflects the songs optimism.  Imaginary friends in mascot costumes follow him around and reek havoc, a sure reflection of his inner demons at play. Inner demons he seems all too at ease with, ones he’s not battling but embracing. Inner demon squad goals. That itself is a powerful message this day and age, with depression and metal health issues at an all time high. To be able to accept our flaws and play it cool is not a weakness but a strength, even if our demons sometime get the best of us. As proved when his furry friends push him off a cliff towards the end.

Rudy himself directed this video and did a hell of a job. I wonder if he also conceptualized and scripted this one, because it shows a creative maturity that proves Rudy is on his way to greatness. It was produced by Shot’s Studios, which is now a media powerhouse with names like Lele Pons, Anwar Jibawi, and Alesso just to name a few in the family. Let us know your thoughts on the video and what it represents to you.
